Geologic Field Search
Oil and gas are commonly found in specific geologic areas referred to as fields. DEC's Division of Mineral Resources is charged with naming geologic fields in conjunction with the State Geologist. Producing wells are grouped into fields. There are over 300 fields in New York State.
You can search on geologic field names and determine the following information if it is in our database: discovery well, discovery year, DOE field number, status, and the counties underlain by the field. If the field name appears as hypertext you can click on the name and see the cumulative production values from our database. Complete production records have only been keypunched since 1985.
