Description

This surface sand filter is an example of green infrastructure in an institutional setting. The sand filter treats stormwater by settling out larger particles in a sediment chamber, followed by filtering through a sand matrix. This practice is often selected to avoid an extended detention pond or wet pool environment that can attract mosquitoes if not designed and maintained properly. Sand filtration facilities often require more regular maintenance over extended detention ponds.
